CodeSwift was engaged to architect and implement a comprehensive SEPA integration that would enable instant payments across 36+ countries while meeting strict regulatory requirements.
Cross-border payments involve multiple clearing systems, varying settlement times, and complex compliance requirements. The bank needed to support SEPA Credit Transfers, SEPA Instant Payments, and SEPA Direct Debits, each with different technical specifications.
Additionally, the system had to handle real-time fraud detection, sanctions screening, and maintain 99.99% uptime for critical payment flows.
We designed a modular payment orchestration layer that abstracts the complexity of different SEPA schemes. The architecture uses event-driven microservices to ensure reliability and scalability.
Real-time compliance checks were integrated at multiple points in the payment flow, with automated sanctions screening and fraud detection powered by machine learning models.
The rollout was phased across payment types, starting with SEPA Credit Transfers and progressing to Instant Payments. Each phase included extensive testing with partner banks and regulatory bodies.
